The Role of Technology in Enhancing Social Sustainability

Abstract
Social sustainability has emerged as a critical dimension of sustainable development, emphasizing the need for societal well-being and equity in the context of environmental and economic sustainability. It encompasses the interplay between social systems, human rights, community dynamics, and the resilience of societies. Unlike its economic and environmental counterparts, which often dominate discussions about sustainability, social sustainability focuses on the social fabric that holds communities together. This includes factors such as equity, social cohesion, cultural identity, and community engagement, all of which are vital for fostering resilient and thriving societies. The challenge lies in integrating these social dimensions with broader sustainability goals to create holistic approaches that address the complexities of contemporary social issues. This requires a deep understanding of social justice, access to resources, and the recognition of diverse identities and experiences within a community.
