Resisting Undesired Signal Through IRS-Based Backscatter Communication System

Abstract
This letter first proposes to resist undesired signal such as interference or jamming signal using intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-based backscatter communication system. When strong undesired signal aggravates the reception at a user seriously, reliable transmission may not be realized. Unlike the conventional methods consuming more power to mitigate the adverse effect, we attempt to harvest the power of undesired signal to fight it. Specifically, an IRS is used as a transmitter, which transforms the undesired signal into the desired signal, accompanied by its backscatter. Additionally, we optimize joint beamforming at the source and the IRS to improve the reception at the user. Simulation results verify that a substantial reception improvement is achieved by the proposed strategy.
