Abstract
Over the past century, supply chain management (SCM) has evolved and been around. The history of Logistics and SCM evolution is covered in detail in this research work. According to a review of the literature, conventional SCM has evolved into smart SCM over time, replacing the manual and time-consuming information gathering and tracking that it relied on. A major factor in the general growth of smart supply chains has been the development of sensor-based technologies and communication devices, which began with simple Radio frequency identification (RFID) based tagging for the identification of items. It is acknowledged that a large portion of the IoT infrastructure-layer relies on information gathering and communication to monitor the location, quality, and timeliness of deliveries of commodities. The use of IoT today goes beyond simple product tracking to include intelligent situation prediction, loss reduction, and protection. Currently, several supply chains use IoT applications that are powered by complex algorithms.
