Digital Transformation in Public Sector
Augusta Ferreira, Carlos Santos
Abstract
This chapter examines the role and impact of digital transformation in the public sector, addressing the need to modernize public administration, enhance efficiency, improve transparency, and optimize public service delivery. It seeks to answer the questions: What are the main impacts of digital transformation in the public sector? Which technologies drive innovation in this area? Using Scopus and Web of Science databases and following the PRISMA methodology to minimize bias, 44 relevant articles were analyzed through descriptive and content analysis. The findings show that digital transformation improves operational efficiency, service delivery, and e-government functionality. Key technologies identified include artificial intelligence, blockchain, chatbots, and internet-based systems (e.g., cloud and IoT). Additionally, digital transformation fosters transparency, accountability, and sustainability, underscoring its critical role in driving innovation and modernizing governance in the public sector.
