Onset of electron-seeded cascades in generic electromagnetic fields

Abstract

The authors derive a general expression for the behavior of the energy and dynamical quantum parameter of an initially slow particle in an arbitrary electromagnetic field of electric type through short-time expansion combined with ultrarelativistic approximation. These results allow the generalization of the effective threshold condition of QED cascade onset.
