Abstract

A rare earth borate fluoride, Sc 2 F 2 (B 2 O 5 ), displays a deep ultraviolet cutoff edge (<200 nm) and very large birefringence induced by the synergistic effect of B 2 O 5 and ScO n F 2 groups.
