Internal Derangements of the Temporomandibular Joint
Gary Warburton
Abstract
Abstract Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder (TMD) is a broad term encompassing many diseases affecting the TMJ and the surrounding structures and includes internal derangement or disc displacement disorders. Our understanding of internal derangement, its causation, and treatments have evolved over the years, and we are now able to offer effective nonsurgical and surgical management strategies. This chapter will discuss the evolution of our understanding of TMJ internal derangement, diagnosis, causation, and management strategies.
