Abstract

Environmental sustainability and climate change have become top agenda items among world leaders and policy makers due to the alarming levels of pollution and global warming. Extensive research has been carried out both in academia and industry to minimize damages caused by chemical substances, leading researchers to adopt safer and more effective strategies. Environmental remediation via green chemistry approaches have been introduced for more benign and versatile methods in an attempt to diminish or completely eliminate the consumption and production of harmful chemical products. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as intriguing chemical substances which demonstrate powerful performance associated with environmental remediation, and they have shown great potential in separation science. The recent developments and existing challenges associated with utilization of MOFs for environmental applications are highlighted in this chapter.
