Abstract

The integrated microwave photonic filter (MPF), which is considered as a promissing solution to overcome the inherent electronic limitations in bandwidth and flexibility, has been extensively researched worldwide recently. To meet different application scenarios, tailorable microwave response is significantly demanded to reduce system complexity. Here, we report and experimentally demonstrate an integrated bandpass microwave photonic filter based on silicon on insulator (SOI). The proposed MPF achieves different reconfigurable responses by using a coupled resonator optical waveguide and tunable coupling regions. Results show that the MPF obtained a bandwidth reconfigurable from 0.24 to 1.76 GHz, a rejection ratio of 42.77 dB, and a center frequency tuning range from 4 to 36 GHz. Our work is a further step towards high-performance, cost-effective MPFs for reconfigurable microwave signal processing and wireless communications.
