Samantha McGirr, Courtney Venegas, Arun Swaminathan
Abstract
The worldwide prevalence of dementia is estimated to be over 45 million people. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia, responsible for 60-80% of cases . An estimated 5.8 million Americans ages 65 and older have AD, a number which could grow to 13.8 million by 2050. As the number of people suffering from AD increases, so does the economic burden of care.
