Abstract

Epidemics caused by emerging plant diseases pose significant threats to agricultural production when newly arrived pathogens invade crops and spread through the landscape. An epidemic is a complex process that involves the interacting dynamics of the pathogen, its vectors, crop growth, and farmers. These dynamics are strongly influenced by weather. Epidemiological models can be used to improve detection, surveillance, and control of emerging epidemics.
