Abstract

In this study, a simple, reliable, and cost-effective PV-based single-stage brushless DC (BLDC) motor driver for water pumping system is proposed. In order to increase the efficiency and decrease the cost and complexity, a dc-dc power conversion stage is eliminated. The perturb and observe (P&O) and the incremental conductance (INC) based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms are implemented to track the optimum power of the PV panels in atmospheric conditions. The proposed system is modeled and tested under different irradiation of the PV array by using MATLAB/Simulink. The model is tested with and without using MPPT control, and the system performance is examined. The MPPT controls are able to successfully drive the motor corresponding to the solar maximum power.
