Abstract
Over 100 countries have committed to net zero carbon emissions by the mid-21st century. China has announced that it will achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality by 2030 and 2060, respectively, during which the rapid development of renewable energy will undoubtedly play a key role. Compared to other renewable energy sources, e.g., wind energy, solar energy, hydroelectric energy, etc., biomass is the only renewable carbon-based option that can supply us with the carbon building blocks for the production of various chemicals while mitigating the dependence from fossil energy. This view proposed the top challenging issues to be tackled in the industrialization of biomass pyrolysis to produce high-quality fuels and value-added chemicals.
