Towards Advanced Animal Care: A Li-Fi and IoT-Based System for Monitoring Newborn Livestock

Abstract
With the rapid advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) and Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) technologies, contemporary livestock management practices are undergoing a transformation.This research introduces an innovative system dedicated to the real-time monitoring of newborn livestock, particularly focusing on calves.Utilizing the high-speed data transfer capabilities of Li-Fi and the widespread connectivity features of IoT, the system is designed to capture, transmit, and analyse vital health parameters, such as body temperature, heart rate, respiration rate, and various behavioural markers like movement and sound detection.Our dataset, which includes a variety of calf health scenarios, shows the system's capacity to correctly identify common diseases, probable hunger, cold and shivering, and situations requiring urgent veterinarian attention.Farmers and veterinarians can safeguard the wellbeing of the newborn cattle with real-time input and the capability to remotely monitor circumstances, improving survival rates, health outcomes, and animal welfare.Additionally, by using Li-Fi technology, we can take advantage of its security, effectiveness, and low interference benefits, overcoming some of the drawbacks of conventional wireless monitoring systems.This research paves the way for a holistic approach to newborn livestock care, promising a future where technological innovations align with the needs of sustainable and humane animal husbandry practices.
