Abstract

Twist to Transform: Pre-Torsion Tubular Metamaterials This cover features a pre-torsion design strategy that enables mechanical metamaterials to achieve synergistic compression-torsion and auxetic responses under both tension and compression. Such multi-effect integration bridges the gap towards the applications of mechanical metamaterials in various engineering fields. To demonstrate its practical utility, the pre-torsion auxetic nail (bottom right figure) designed under this paradigm can significantly reduce insertion force and avoid potential damage of the target object compared to the conventional nail (bottom left figure). More details can be found in the Research Article by Jianfei Yin, Xin Ren, Jihong Wen, and co-workers (DOI: 10.1002/advs.202512564).
