Abstract

Nerve conduction study (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) are two electrodiagnostic (EDx) tests that help in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders. They mainly help to localize the lesion within the peripheral nervous system (e.g., roots, plexus, nerves, neuromuscular junction, or muscle). EDx tests also help to differentiate axonal neuropathy, demyelinating neuropathy, and vasculitic neuropathy. EMG plays a major role in differentiating muscle versus nerve disorders. In this chapter, we describe and discuss the major findings in NCS and EMG that help in neuromuscular biopsy interpretation.
