Abstract

One condition of the manufacturing process is the need to obtain processed workpieces characterized by the good quality finishing. These conditions motivated the development of this study, which the process of laser cutting materials was selected. In this study, it was investigated the variation effects of cutting power, speed, and assist gas pressure on the burr and roughness of the workpiece for the continuous CO2 laser cutting process. Several analyses were performed using statistical tools. Based on the data collected, factorial arrangements were designed using the experimental design methodology, in order to evaluate the influence degree of the parameters and its possible interactions and, thus, verify its statistical significance. Despite the complexity of the effects and interactions of the involved parameters, the results supported for the optimization of the laser cutting process of ABNT 1045 steel to be possible. At the end of the study, it is concluded that the cutting speed and the assist gas pressure are the main factors to affect the burr and roughness formation in the laser cutting process of the ABNT 1045 steel.
