Abstract

At present, brushless DC motors, permanent magnet synchronous motors and permanent magnet assisted motors are the best choices for electric vehicle applications. All these motors are equipped with permanent magnets manufactured with rare earth materials. To overcome the drawbacks of permanent magnets, this paper explores the design and analysis of three permanent magnet less motors namely switched reluctance motor, squirrel cage induction motor and synchronous reluctance motor. The finite element analysis was performed in the ANSYS Maxwell platform and the results are compared in terms of mechanical design and electrical performance.
