Magnesium ions and dementia

Abstract
Magnesium is an essential nutrient involved in many physiological activities, and it has been implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous age-related diseases containing dementia. There is accumulating evidence that dementia is associated with low magnesium levels, and that dietary magnesium intake is related to better cognitive function. In this review, we summarize our current understanding of the role of magnesium in dementia, highlighting recent progress in the field.
