Abstract
Abstract This chapter provides an understanding of the diagnostic process of oral and maxillofacial pathology. It provides an insight into the specialty and training pathway as well as the expectations of the core trainee in the department. The duties as a Dental Core trainee in pathology are described including the cut-up process, describing specimens, embedding, histopathological stains, and writing pathology reports. Elements out of the scope of a core trainee such as large specimens are also explained. It also provides knowledge on the pathological features of oral and maxillofacial lesions useful for all dental practitioners. The use of microscopes is described, the role of the oral and maxillofacial pathology in multidisciplinary meetings and clinical audit projects.
