The Path to a Vehicle-to-Grid Future: Powering Electric Mobility Forward
Amin Ghazanfari, Christian Perreault
Abstract
Industry 4.0 is based on a fusion of rapid technological breakthroughs in the integration, automation, digitalization, and connectivity of all industrial processes. As part of this, the mass adoption of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology can offer a tantalizing opportunity to reduce fuel import dependence, decrease air and noise pollution, decarbonize transport, and promote the adoption of new approaches to urban mobility. Given the current state of electric mobility, the main questions that influence the future of V2G technology are: What valuable benefits are waiting to be unlocked? What measures need to be implemented to mitigate potential risks? This article identifies growth opportunities, significant market drivers and barriers, and policy factors from V2G market participants’ perspectives.
