Water electrolysis technologies for producing hydrogen: A review

Abstract

In recent years, the rising demand for high-efficiency energy supplies has prompted research into low-cost, ecologically friendly alternatives to energy generation. The use of hydrogen as a desirable fuel for electricity production is becoming more popular as a means of resolving problems related to fossil fuels. Hydrogen serves as an important alternative energy source, releasing only water when combusted. The most effective method for creating hydrogen and oxygen without emitting any greenhouse gases is water electrolysis. Consequently, there has been growing interest in the production of green hydrogen via water electrolysis for use in large-scale renewable power plants, as well as in industrial and transport applications. The primary goal of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of different green hydrogen production systems, with a specific emphasis on water electrolysis. Several water electrolysis technologies have been assembled in this review. Hydrogen-powered ships, trucks, and even train transportation systems may be commonplace in the foreseeable future because of improvements in hydrogen technology.
