Lenias Hwenda, Michel Sidibé, Michael Makanga
Abstract
The continent of Africa is home to 17% of the global population that carries 25% of the global disease burden. Yet globally, it accounts for less than 2% of genomic data1 used in medical innovation and less than 3% of clinical trials.2 Clinical research remains concentrated in high-income countries.3 Here, we highlight the importance of diversity in clinical research and propose solutions to increase the amount of clinical research done in Africa.
