Abstract

The solid-state transformer (SST) technology has been greatly involved in recent decades due to new semiconduc-tor technology, extensive efforts to improve magnetic designs, and intensive research on optimizing power converter designs. Moreover, new applications and trends for SSTs have emerged. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the latest developments in the field of SSTs, starting from the system level, which includes power converter topologies and architectures, to the level of individual components, such as power semiconductor technology and magnetic components. The main power converter architectures of SST and their design challenges have been analyzed, as well as the design of high-power, high-isolation medium frequency transformers for SST.
