A Wideband and High-Isolation MIMO Slot Antenna for 5G Smartphone Applications

Abstract

A novel broadband high-isolation MIMO antenna is proposed for 5G smartphone applications. The antenna includes 6 slot elements and utilizes their single-polarization characteristic to improve the isolation between elements. The slot elements are designed by using separated bent paths and multi-branched resonant technology. Two L-shaped slot elements are loaded on the same open end to achieve a wide bandwidth while satisfying the miniaturization requirement. Simulation results by the well-known HFSS show that the proposed antenna has a return loss of less than 6.0 dB in the frequency range of 3.3-5 GHz, and the isolation performance in the entire frequency band is better than −15 dB.
