Abstract

During the recent advancement in terms of technology and its real world application, Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) has made a special niche for itself. WSN offers a variety of applications and solutions. To have an optimum performance a tradeoff is required between the power consumption and the percentage of area covered. To have an optimum coverage nodes are expected to be placed in such a way that maximum area is covered with minimum number of nodes. In this manuscript a Modified Particle Swarm Optimization has been proposed with the idea of negative velocity. The proposed algorithm focuses on the exploration part of the PSO which leads to escaping the local optima. We have also compared the results of the coverage ratio with that of conventional PSO and found a noteworthy performance enhancement.
