Sustainability in Action

Abstract

This chapter presents a case study of how two UK business programs, B.Sc. International Business Management and BA International Business, integrated sustainability courses as a meaningful action into their curriculum through a project called “Sustainability in Action” at their branch campus in Doha. The project aimed to educate, empower, inspire, and transform students to become globally responsible leaders who can contribute to the common good. The project involved a series of events, like local and international field trips, summits, industry expert guest lectures, beach cleanup, symposium, and poster exhibition. This chapter describes the rationale, design, implementation, and outcomes of the project, highlighting the challenges and benefits of transforming the traditional classroom curriculum into a dynamic experiential model. This chapter also discusses the impact of the project on the students’ mindset, knowledge, and skills regarding sustainability and how it fostered a sense of community and engagement among the stakeholders. This chapter concludes with some reflections and recommendations for business schools who wish to embed sustainability into their curriculum and create positive change in themselves, their organizations, and the world.
