Abstract

Most of the existing mathematical models of two-dimensional (2D) chaotic maps include composite operations with multiple nonlinear structures, which increases the difficulty of hardware implementation. In this brief, we use two separate trigonometric functions to construct a novel 2D cosine-sine interleaved chaotic map (2D-CSIM) without composite operations. The complex hyperchaotic behaviors of the 2D-CSIM are confirmed by using various testing approaches. Thus, the 2D-CSIM not only exhibits hyperchaotic behaviors across a continuous and broad range of parameter intervals, but also has a relatively simple structure. Finally, we use the 2D-CSIM in two different DCSK systems to demonstrate its application in secure communication. Experimental results reveal that the 2D-CSIM performs well against channel noise when it is employed in secure communication systems.
