Abstract

Population-based estimates for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in low-income and middle-income countries are imprecise because of the paucity of registration and surveillance systems in these settings. Current estimates for diabetes prevalence are largely derived from the Global Burden of Disease study, 1 GBD 2019 Diabetes Mortality CollaboratorsDiabetes mortality and trends before 25 years of age: an analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. An additional 11 million adults in Pakistan have impaired glucose tolerance, while approximately 8·9 million people with diabetes remain undiagnosed. Data on long-term complications among people with diabetes in Pakistan are limited.
