Abstract
layered double hydroxides (LDH) are a class of ionic clay made of brucite-type layers. LDHs have been very interesting for researchers in recent years due to their simple and environmentally friendly preparation, cost-effectiveness, nontoxicity, tunable structure, chemical and thermal stability, high biocompatibility, and other applications. This review provides an overview of the methods of synthesis of LDHs and their composites and their applications in the removal of organic and inorganic contaminants from aqueous solutions, methods used to characterize LDHs and their composites, The influence of factors such as pH, dosage of adsorbent, contaminant initial-concentration, and contact time, on the adsorption process , adsorption mechanism as well as isotherms, and kinetics models.
