Abstract

The impact that air quality has on a human being is significant. Millions of deaths are associated with air pollution and health problems. Several standards and policies to regulate and improve air quality have been established by both the World Health Organization and the Environmental Protection Agency. Currently, several authors proposed cost-effective devices for measuring air quality in real-time. The proliferation of low-cost options to measure air quality and acquire sensor data. Moreover, it is possible to develop novel techniques and use artificial intelligence to predict poor air quality scenarios. This paper presents a literature review on IoT architectures for air quality monitoring using LoRa communication technology. On the one hand, the objective of this study is to present a literature review to support future research initiates on the application of air quality monitoring system using LoRa. On the other hand, the main contribution of the paper is to present an overview on sensors, power source, communication, data storage, processing, and visualization technologies used in the proposed methods available in the literature.
