Abstract
Asphalt pavement absorbs more than 90% of solar radiation, which induces a series of issues. To solve these problems, a novel optical shielding pavement coating with nano-tungsten bronze (MxWO3) was developed, of which the M were Na+, K+ and Cs+ respectively. It was found that the coatings have excellent shielding effect on all spectrum, especially with 6 wt% dosage of CsxWO3, which can prevent 98% of the light waves from penetrating the coating. The cooling test results showed that the coating reduced the internal temperature of asphalt slabs by 2.6 ℃ without a significant deterioration of their skidding performance.
