Noise-driven amplification mechanisms governing the emergence of coherent extreme events in excitable systems

Abstract
The authors develop a model to describe the emergence of extreme coherent events in coupled excitable systems, specifically neuronal networks, and show that activity in a small ensemble of neurons can be strongly amplified by connectivity and noise.
