Abstract

The author presents a comprehensive analysis of ground-state cooling of a mechanical oscillator in the unresolved sideband regime via a protocol that uses both dispersive and dissipative optomechanical coupling mechanisms. One of the resulting conclusions is that, in the sideband-resolved regime where the dispersive-coupling-assisted protocol is commonly viewed as an ultimate tool, the dissipative-coupling-assisted protocol may require a much smaller in-cavity photon number for the same cooling level.
