Abstract

This paper presents a detailed small-signal analysis of a single-phase single-stage bidirectional AC-DC converter with PFC for an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging application. A state-space averaging method is utilized to derive small-signal modeling. A modified control technique is formulated for determining the soft-switching method without additional snubber circuits. For power factor correction (PFC) operation, grid current can be governed by employing this model. The proposed converter can be operated in a four-quadrant with active and reactive power in a bidirectional way which enhances the stability of the grid. By utilizing the controller design, the derived small-signal model and closed-loop operation are implemented to ensure the functions of the grid to the vehicle (G2V) and vehicle to grid (V2G) of this configuration. The system is modeled and developed in PSIM 11.04 and simulation results show the four-quadrant operation of the designed configuration. The performance of the proposed topology is evaluated through experimental results of a 1.5 kW hardware prototype.
