Abstract

In this brief, DOA tracking using a nested array (NA) is discussed and a modified tracking method is proposed. Discrete Fourier transform (DFT) is firstly used to estimate DOAs at the beginning moment. Thereafter, we realize DOA tracking through compensating offsets of adjacent moments. Offsets can be obtained by total least squares (TLS), which is constructed via first-order Taylor expansion. Meanwhile, the noise component is taken into account to strengthen the robustness to noise influence, whose power can be estimated as a by-product. The proposed method is simple to implement and requires no data association operation with multiple DOAs. Compared with other state-of-art DOA tracking methods, it has much better DOA tracking performance while with medium complexity, which achieves a good compromise between performance and computational complexity. The feasibility of this approach is verified by experimental simulations.
