Abstract

Looking for signatures of elementary particles is a long-lasting topic in physics. The magnon is the emergent particle associated with spin fluctuations in a magnet. The preparation of a single-magnon state is yet to be realized and is crucial for the interplay of magnetism with quantum information science. Here, the authors demonstrate that a single-magnon state is accessible in a wide class of low-damping magnetic nanoparticles at low temperatures and that this may boost its use in quantum information processing.
