Abstract

Water is the most essential part of human life, which is being provided to houses through water distribution channel. Due to inappropriate handling of distribution channel water gets contaminated and when reaches one's house is not fit for drinking and thus has to be purified before consumption. The contaminants in water vary with time and place but the purifiers used nowadays does not purify water depending on time varying and place varying impurities. If the impurities are less and purification process removes even the beneficial minerals from water it makes water unfit for drinking for example reverse osmosis purification system when used to purify low impurity water makes water unfit for drinking which has no minerals left in it that are essential for human body. Thus, to solve this problem a smart water purification system is proposed in which water purification system is monitored and controlled through total dissolved solids of inlet water. Depending on the total dissolved solids, purification method is automatically selected to ensure the water becomes fit for drinking. For low impurity water ultra-filtration is selected while for high impurities reverse osmosis is selected. To ensure that water is purified irrespective of sensor failure an algorithm is designed to make sure water purification process does not stop. A magnetic float sensor is used to ensure no overflow of water and overconsumption of energy occurs. Monitoring of water quality is done with the help of pH, electrical conductivity and temperature sensor which is notified with the help of LED and real time data collected by sensors is sent to mobile phones wirelessly.
