Steve Mirmina, Caryn Schenewerk
Abstract
Chapter 6 starts with an overview of NASA's creation as a reaction to the U.S.S.R.'s launch of Sputnik. It then explains how NASA fits in with the other agencies of the U.S. Government (USG). The chapter then provides an explanation of how NASA formulates international cooperation in space exploration today as well as an article-by-article analysis of the fundamental clauses contained in NASA's international agreements with space agencies across the world. The chapter also examines how NASA's commercialization initiatives helped enable today's commercial space industry. Finally, the chapter concludes with a section on doing business with NASA, explaining how NASA conducts its contracting activities with private industry.
