Abstract

In this letter, we propose an adaptive liquid lens with tunable aperture. The proposed lens has one tunable Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) surface and one tunable aperture. The curvature of the PDMS surface and the tunable aperture can be controlled by one actuator. When the dyed liquid is pumped into the lens chamber, the PDMS surface becomes convex and the aperture shrinks simultaneously. The proposed lens can reduce aberrations in high power tuning range due to the tunable aperture. Besides, the proposed lens can keep depth of field (DOF) stable in the middle and short focal length. The experiment shows the minimum of positive focal length, aperture and angular resolution are measured to be 42 mm, 2.5 mm, and 52”93, respectively.
