Abstract

This paper concerns a metro project where the client specified that the line should be built in such a way that rail corrugation did not occur after the line opened to passenger traffic. This paper describes the types of corrugation that were considered to be most likely to occur and presents the proposals that were made in order to minimize their occurrence. A companion paper presents the results of monitoring that was undertaken once the line was opened to traffic. This demonstrated that the measures proposed and adopted were indeed successful.
