Abstract
A person sits comfortably at home and enjoys the convenience brought by the internet, enjoys online shopping, receives emails from friends or close acquaintances, and handles sensitive bank or credit card transactions. The internet sends or receives information through a packet mechanism, which is constantly transmitted on the network. Has a person ever wondered how these information packets will flow into other people's machines through the network? The concern is not unreasonable, because sniffing can turn the concern into real danger. It's like a person peeking from behind. This paper will discuss an overview of the network transmission process, various types of sniffing, and the defense mechanisms to prevent sniffing.
