Abstract

Multimorbidity is commonly defined as the co-existence of two or more chronic conditions in an individual, including physical, non-communicable diseases, mental health conditions, or infectious diseases of long duration. Multimorbidity is becoming exceedingly common worldwide and is expected to increase further in the near future, driven at least partly by population ageing. For some groups, multimorbidity appears to be the new norm; a meta-analysis published in eClinicalMedicine in March, 2023, reported that 51.0% of adults older than 60 years worldwide now have multimorbid conditions.
