Abstract

Objective: To identify, in the scientific literature, the epidemiological profile of patients affected by stroke. Method: Integrative review, using the descriptors: Health Profile and Stroke, with original articles, complete, published in portuguese, between the years 2013 and 2018. Results: Eight articles were found, four of which were published in 2017 years, seven selected in LILACS and seven of descriptive transversal type. Six articles evidenced male gender as the most affected and six others cited that the mean age ranged from 53 to 68.1 years. Four articles found ischemic as the most incident and four others cited that the patients presented a low level of schooling. Systemic arterial hypertension was identified in three articles, two articles cited that most were in their first stroke event, two other articles showed that most of the patients were home workers or retired and in other two the rates of Mortality ranged from 17.5% to 36.0%. One article showed that people of white color are the most affected, another article described the left hemisphere as the most affected, another article cited that the patients remained hospitalized for an average of 12.4 days and another article described the infection of the urinary tract and pneumonia as clinical complications of patients after stroke. Conclusion: Based on the epidemiological data found, it is concluded that the incidence of stroke depends on several factors, and the profile found in this study is consistent with the available literature on the subject.
