Abstract
Ni-advanced weathering steel is an alternative for application in marine atmospheres. The increase in Ni content makes Ni-advanced weathering steel have a more unique rust layer than conventional weathering steel. However, unpainted Ni-advanced weathering steel is not suitable for marine environments with high levels of salinity because a protective rust layer does not form in such environments. This paper has systematically introduced the corrosion-resistance mechanism and the corrosion behavior of Ni-advanced weathering steel in marine atmospheres. Considering the lack of corrosion resistance in harsh environments and the required strength and toughness related to the engineering demand, this work provides some suggestions to optimize the composition and organization of Ni-advanced weathering steel to improve its comprehensive properties.
