Abstract The Oxford Handbook of Rehabilitation Psychology, second edition, serves as an international reference for psychologists and associated health care providers as they work to understand and improve the health, participation, and quality of life of people with disabilities and chronic health conditions. The 46 chapters summarize theoretical and practical information within four areas: background and theoretical information; cross-cutting topics, including lifespan issues and symptom management; diagnostic-specific assessment and psychosocial treatment; and professional issues. As such, this book provides foundational knowledge and an evidence-based overview of relevant psychological theories, processes, assessments, and multilevel interventions that are critical in the prevention and management of the consequences of impairment, illness, and injury. This edition is guided by a biopsychosocial framework, informed by the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, and takes a global perspective, which is reflected in the epidemiological, research, and practice content of each chapter. It is written for practicing psychologists and trainees, as well as associated health care providers, to use in their roles as clinicians, researchers, educators, and advocates.
