Abstract
Today, electrification of transport is the most sustainable approach to tackle air pollution contributed by the transport sector. This paper addresses the current statutes of electric vehicle technology in the U.K. with the emphasis on charging stations infrastructure. In that regard, the technical limitations that continue to challenge the sustainability of EVCSs along with the opportunities for renewable-powered EVCSs in such a technological transformation are discussed. Two novel reflector-based solar PV systems for EVCSs are prposed. The design of a reflector complemented dual mono-facial solar PV for improved conversion efficiency as a function of the surface area is introduced. A self-shading parallel reflector based bi-facial solar PV design with enhanced contact area, appropriate to solar radiation levels in the City of Leeds, U.K., is outlined.
