Abstract
The paper deals with enhancing the three-phase network model, for simulation of both symmetrical and asymmetrical networks, under both normal and faulted operation. The modelling approach, which was implemented into the MODES simulation tool, is described in a great detail.Demonstration of the application of the MODES simulation tool, newly extended by the three-phase model, in the field of simultaneous faults analysis, distribution system protection and voltage unbalance evaluation, is done, using simulations on simple test systems.Simulations are complemented by discussion of achieved results and validation is accomplished by using other simulation tools (PSCAD/EMTDC, OpenDSS).Finally, conclusions and future plans for the model extension and its possible applications are presented.
