Abstract

In this letter, we investigate the performance of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided networks in the presence of non-identically distributed interferers at the destination. A mathematical framework is proposed to statistically characterize the cascaded channels and to evaluate the performance in terms of outage probability (OP) and average bit error rate (BER). The high signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) analysis reduces to easy-to-compute expressions for the outage probability and BER, which reveals inside information for the system design. We also extend the analysis to study multi-RIS networks with two schemes. Representative results show that the RIS element number and interference setting have a significant impact on the overall system performance.
