Abstract

The present work discusses the synthesis, characterisation and photocatalytic application of carbon dots prepared using Cassia fistula flower extract through completely greener methodology via hydrothermal method. The prepared system with excellent opto-electronic properties is utilised as such without any modification for the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes, using methylene blue as a model. The morphology and chemical properties associated with the synthesised carbon dots were confirmed by various instrumental methods. The photocatalytic activity of the system with methylene blue was investigated under visible light and resulting with moderate level of degradation. Degradation studies of the system were conducted by changing different degradation parameters to find out maximum degradation with the system.
